It is possible and simple to replace but usually not financially worth doing. If the unit does not hold a charge but functions while it is plugged in then it is most likely a faulty battery. from what i understand, capacitor is very different from a battery .. it can charge with a dying battery.. the capacitor will get to 14V but it will just take longer. seems ideal for powering the starter. i wonder why cars don't already have these.
